Movie review - Colors (1988)

Colors, brings to the audiences, the reality of gang war Los Angeles in mid to late 80s. Sean Penn and Robert Duvall are two LAPD officers on the gang crime division.

The set-up is quite your traditional setting, rookie cop Penn and veteran Duvall are teamed up and they have to deal with various gang-related issues through-out the film. One of many may say.

What is particular about Colors is the research into LA gangs that was carried out by the crew before the film shooting. It looks into all the major gangs by ethnic groups and tries to give a reason to why one is willing to give up everything to belong to the gangs.

The film won Herbie Hancock a BMI Film & TV Awards 1989 for the music. While Ice T got himself nominated for the MTV Video Music Awards of 1989 for Best Video from a Film.

Director: Dennis Hopper Writers: Michael Schiffer (screenplay), Michael Schiffer (story) and Richard Dilello Stars: Sean Penn, Robert Duvall, Maria Conchita Alonso
